More and more frequently, neuroimplants are being employed to reduce symptoms or to restore functions in patients suffering from neuronal degenerative diseases. Magnetic resonance tomography (MRT) would be an important imaging technique in diagnostic analysis as well as in postsurgical monitoring of these patients. However, the strong magnetic fields generated in this process can lead to undesirable interactions with the implant und can thus significantly endanger the patient´s health. The recently published article reviews current literature on implant safety in MRI, explains fundamental phenomena and points out possible strategies to ensure patients´ safety during MRT for patients with brain implants.
