Glancing at the big picture, scientists use modern measurement technology to record the state of natural structures such as forests and artificial structures such as construction sites. Prof. Dr. Alexander Reiterer from the Department of Sustainable Systems Engineering at the University of Freiburg is developing a particularly versatile instrument. His multi-sensor system combines various tools such as cameras, laser scanners, GPS as well as temperature and air pressure sensors. It captures and measures large objects so quickly and accurately that it can detect changes over time – whether on land, at sea or in the air.
