Researchers at the Department of Computer Science win Best Paper Award

Oier Mees and his team prevailed with their CALVIN paper

Congratulations to Oier Mees, Lukas Hermann, Erick Rosete-Beas, and Wolfram Burgard, who received the 2022 IEEE Robotics and Automation Letter Best Paper Award in London for their paper "CALVIN: A Benchmark for Language-Conditioned Policy Learning for Long-Horizon Robot Manipulation Tasks." Oier Mees and his team prevailed against 1,100 other papers.

The award ceremony took place on June 1, 2023, in London during the IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA) 2023. The award is presented by the IEEE Robotics & Automation Society and comes with a cash prize.

The second paper, "Grounding Language with Visual Affordances over Unstructured Data," by Oier Mees, Jessica Borja-Diaz, and Wolfram Burgard, was a finalist for the Best Paper Award in Robot Learning at the same conference in London.

Oier Mees, who defended his Ph.D. last Friday, recently received the 2023 AI Newcomer Award for his research on voice-controlled robotics.
