Since 2016, the Gips-Schüle Foundation has been funding two professorships at the Department for Sustainable Systems Engineering (INATECH), Faculty of Engineering at the University of Freiburg. As part of its supervisory board meeting, the foundation now visited the INATECH.

Every year, the Eva Mayr-Stihl Foundation awards prizes for the promotion of young scientists for their master's theses and dissertations from the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg in the field of sustainability research. This year, at the ceremonial Opening of the Academic Year 2022/23 on October 19, three theses from the Institute of Sustainable Systems Engineering (INATECH), which were written in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE, were awarded for their excellence.

Christoph Messmer, PhD student in the group of Photovoltaic Energy Conversion at INATECH, University of Freiburg, received a Student Award for his plenary talk “The Race for the Best Silicon Bottom Cell: Efficiency and Cost Evaluation of Perovskite-Silicon Tandem Cells” at the 37th European PV Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition (EU PVSEC).

Henning, Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE and Professor for Solar Energy Systems at the University of Freiburg, was appointed to the new Expert Council on Climate Issues by the German Cabinet. The independent panel of experts, consisting of five scientists, will advise the German government on the implementation of Germany’s Climate Action Law.
