Winter excursion to the Black Forest

There and back again for new Master’s students of SSE.

Last week, 54 new Master’s students of the Sustainable Systems Engineering (SSE) program undertook the journey to Schluchsee in the heart of the Black Forest for the traditional SSE trip. Although on Thursday the weather left much to be desired, the youth hostel Schluchsee-Wolfsgrund was the ideal location for of this overnight trip. And a cold, but sunny Friday made up for the rainy day before and highlighted the natural beauty of the lakescape.

Workshops, getting to know each other, and a plunge into cold water
The agenda of the trip included workshops, informative presentations, games and ice-breaker activities - both figuratively and literally as some brave souls took a dip into the icy Schluchsee despite having been advised against it. Many lecturers of the INATECH also joined and were happy to meet the new students and promote their own courses, which the students can choose in the upcoming semesters.

A long-standing tradition with international flair
“The SSE trip has a long tradition and is often remembered fondly, “ says program coordinator Ester Gnandt. “It’s very important to us to give our students, who come from all over the world, the opportunity to get to know each other better and socialize. We usually get a bit more snow, which is especially nice for those coming from a climate where snow is not common. However, even with little or no snow, the scenery of the Black Forest is gorgeous and adds to the relaxed atmosphere we’re looking for. We also want our students to get to know the lecturers in an informal setting and feel connected to the program.”

Thank you very much to all who have been involved in planning and carrying out this trip, especially to the program coordinators Renata Harder and Ester Gnandt.
