Subject of the project COLUMNS, led by Prof. Wallrabe, is the development of active Optics for Optogenetics. The aim is to produce controllable Bessel beams that can penetrate deeply into the neurological tissue of the brain to produce controlled stimulations.

Subject of the project NEUMARE, led by Prof. Korvink of the simulations lab with participation of the microactuators laboratory, is the development of a test bench for the testing of the MR compatibility of neurological implants. The work package of the microactuators laboratory is the development of a user friendly and reliable measurement technique for the magnetic susceptibility.

Both projects have been granted as “exploratory projects” for an initial period of one year, with the possibility of extension for another three years.
