Which farmer wouldn’t love a fully automated farm? “BoniRob” could make that dream come true: In the not-so-distant future, the plant robot will be able to drive along the field and return by itself. The highly intelligent field hand can distinguish between crops and weeds, thereby rendering the undesirable growth environmentally harmless. The Freiburg doctoral student Alexander Schaefer is currently fine-tuning the robot’s navigation system – BoniRob is slated to show off its abilities to the public by the fall of 2018.
