Graduation ceremonies 2025 of the Faculty of Engineering

On July 11, 2025, the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Freiburg celebrated its graduation ceremony - with over 500 participants: Graduates and companions from academia, family and society. The event not only marked the end of a successful period of study, but also a milestone of shared commitment, knowledge and cohesion.

Two celebrations - one joint highlight
The celebrations took place in two formats:

• In the morning in German for Bachelor graduates and Master of Education graduates
• In the afternoon in English for Master's graduates, PhDs and habilitations.

Both events reflected the diversity and internationality of the faculty and provided a worthy setting for the graduation ceremony.

Greetings and inspiring contributions
A special highlight was the video message from the Rector of the University of Freiburg, Prof. Dr. Kerstin Krieglstein, and the personal greeting from the Mayor of Freiburg, Martin Horn. The keynote speech by Prof. Dr. Hans-Martin Henning on the climate-neutral building sector opened up forward-looking perspectives. In his speech, alumnus Niklas Thiedecke gave encouraging insights into the transition from studying to working life, while Matthias Scherer found personal and motivating words in his student speech.

Musical setting and festive atmosphere
The Academic Orchestra of the University of Freiburg lent a festive note to the event with musical contributions. The ceremonial presentation of the congratulatory folders was carried out personally by the deans of studies Prof. Dr. Hannah Bast, Prof. Schindelhauer, Prof. Dr. Anke Weidlich and Prof. Dr. Bastian Rapp.

Thanks to everyone involved
Special thanks go to the organizational team in the Dean's Office for their commitment in front of and behind the scenes and to the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr.-Ing.. Frank Balle. Together with Dr. Rainer Giersiepen, he combined professional and personal aspects in an appealing way and gave the celebration a consistently appreciative and unifying atmosphere.

A day of appreciation and looking ahead
The 2025 graduation ceremony was an impressive expression of what collective achievement, scientific excellence and human cohesion can achieve. The Faculty of Engineering congratulates all graduates and wishes them every success and inspiration for their future careers in science, industry and society.
