Strengthening international cooperation

Visit of the China Sensor and IoT Industry Association delegation to the Faculty of Engineering

On June 13, 2024, a high-level delegation from the China Sensor and IoT Industry Association (SIA) visited the Faculty of Engineering. The SIA is a leading organization that promotes and develops sensor and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies in China.

The visit to the Faculty of Engineering followed a visit to Hahn-Schickard in Villingen-Schwenningen. Prof. Stieglitz presented impressive research activities and projects at the Department of Microsystems Engineering (IMTEK). He pointed out that application-oriented high-tech research is carried out at IMTEK and showed the areas in which the start-up companies spun off from the department market the scientific results. The spectrum ranges from energy-autonomous radio systems and in-vitro diagnostics for rapid tests to active implants for lowering blood pressure.

IMTEK is one of the leading institutions for microsystems engineering and offers excellent and practice-oriented teaching. Prof. Stieglitz informed the guests about the wide range of degree programmes and courses, which provide numerous opportunities for specialization in areas such as artificial intelligence, robotics, biomedical microtechnology and sustainability. The department stands out with its own clean room and the opportunity to gain practical experience while studying. National and international rankings such as Times Higher Education, QS World University Ranking and the Shanghai Ranking confirm Freiburg's excellence in research and teaching.

"We learn to understand things in depth before we apply them. We look forward to welcoming students from China who are willing to follow this path in their studies," emphasized Prof. Stieglitz.

The visit of the SIA delegation marks an important step in the international cooperation between German and Chinese institutions and companies in the field of microsystems engineering.
