Stefan J. Rupitsch has headed the Laboratory for Electrical Instrumentation and Embedded Systems at the Faculty of Engineering since December 2020. His research areas range from piezoelectric transducers (sensors, actuators, and ultrasonic transducers) and their applications (e.g., energy harvesting, ultrasonic flow metering) over problem-oriented signal processing approaches, simulation-based material characterization methods and wireless sensor systems. Currently, Rupitsch investigates ultrasonic-based methods for local cancer therapy, exploiting nanoparticles that are enriched with chemotherapeutics. In doing so, one can reduce the side effects of common chemotherapy remarkably.
Rupitsch studied Mechatronics and finished his PhD thesis at the Johannes Kepler University Linz in 2008. From 2008 to 2020, he was research assistant, academic councillor and senior councillor, and deputy professor of the Chair of Sensor Technology at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg. In 2018, he gained his post-doctorate degree in the area Electrical Instrumentation and Sensorics. Rupitsch serves as associate editor of the IEEE Sensors Journal, as member of the scientific advisory board of the journal “tm – Technisches Messen”, and as guest associate editor of the Journal of Sensors and Sensor Systems (JSSS).
