For the research work in her dissertation, Dr. Maria Cruz was awarded second place in the 2022 Klee Prize. In her work, she developed an implant that can be used to improve transmission from the brain to a computer. This technology is used in brain-computer interfaces to help, for example, people who cannot communicate verbally or with gestures.

For the first time in the history of the Klee Prize, the winners of second and third place also receive prize money. 2,000 euros and a certificate go to Dr. Maria Cruz for her work carried out at the Laboratory of Biomedical Microtechnology within the framework of BrainLinks-BrainTools in cooperation with the Center for Translational Neurophysiology (IIT) in Ferrrara.
