THE-Ranking: The University of Freiburg has been named one of the top ten German universities

High scores for technology transfer, among other things

The Times Higher Education World University Ranking 2023, or THE ranking for short, has been published. The University of Freiburg is ranked tenth in Germany. In an international comparison, the British magazine Times Higher Education lists the University of Freiburg in 113th place. The ranking evaluates more than 1700 universities worldwide, including 51 from Germany.

The University of Freiburg stands out in particular in the “industry income” category, where it reached 96 out of a possible 100 points. The category evaluates achievements in technology transfer, for example through innovations, inventions and consulting.

THE ranking methodology

The THE ranking is based on 13 indicators that reflect the performance of universities in four areas: Teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international orientation. In addition to a worldwide survey of academics on the reputation of universities in research and teaching, statistical indicators such as citation frequency in publications and the number of international students and researchers also count.
